The Volvo XC60 T8 has long been one of our favourite plug-in hybrids. The current model combines genuine winter-ready electric driving, strong performance and the sort of comfort expected from a Volvo. Its main limitation has always been range. For 2028, Volvo is addressing that weakness with a much larger battery and a projected 126 kilometres of electric driving.

The Volvo XC40 has always stood out by doing compact luxury a little differently. It is athletic, practical and unmistakably Scandinavian, with enough personality to avoid feeling like a scaled-down version of a larger SUV. For 2027, Volvo has chosen to refine the formula rather than replace it. We saw the updated XC40 during a private studio preview in London, where its changes came across as subtle but effective.

Part 2: Mexico Real-World Range, Real-World Roads The move from winter testing in Montebello to Mexico City changes the evaluation completely. Not because of performance. Because of the environment. High altitude. Broken pavement. Endless speed bumps. Dense traffic. This is where daily usability shows both good and negative parts very quickly.

The Volvo XC60 Recharge returns for 2026 with subtle but meaningful refinements. None of them changes the character of the vehicle, yet all of them matter once temperatures drop well below freezing. This winter test was carried out during a cold snap that hovered around –25°C and dipped to –35°C with the wind chill. Immediately, what stood out was how confidently the XC60 remained an electric-first vehicle.
