Leapmotor C10 First Contact: A Look At What Could Inspire Chrysler’s Future Airflow

We tested the Leapmotor C10 in Southern Austria in two versions: the C10 Hybrid EV, also known as a REEV, and the fully electric C10 Design ProMax AWD. Both were finished in Light White, and both quickly showed that Leapmotor is not just another unknown Chinese brand trying to enter Europe. The C10 feels like a serious family SUV with space, comfort, technology, and two very different electrified personalities. More importantly, it also feels like the kind of vehicle that could give Stellantis a useful technical base for Chrysler’s next chapter.

The bigger story is where this vehicle could fit inside Stellantis. Nothing has been confirmed by Chrysler or Stellantis, but the C10’s dimensions make the connection hard to ignore. At 4,739 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, 1,680 mm high, and with a 2,825 mm wheelbase, it lands directly in midsize family SUV territory. Chrysler currently relies heavily on the Pacifica, while the brand is expected to grow to four vehicles by 2030 as part of its refreshed showroom strategy. With Stellantis already invested in Leapmotor through Leapmotor International, using this technology as a starting point for a future Chrysler Airflow-style SUV would make sense.

A New Name With Big Stellantis Implications

Leapmotor was founded in China in 2015 and focuses heavily on in-house electric technology, including drive systems and electronic architecture. Stellantis’ joint venture with Leapmotor gives it access to that technology outside China, and for Chrysler, that could be a shortcut in the best possible way. The brand does not need another long wait. It needs modern, practical, electrified family vehicles, and the C10 shows one possible direction.


REEV vs BEV: Two Very Different Personalities

The first C10 we tested was the Hybrid EV Design. This is not a traditional plug-in hybrid. It is a range-extended electric vehicle. In simple terms, the electric motor drives the wheels, while the gasoline engine works mainly as a generator when needed. A regular PHEV can use both the engine and electric motor to drive the vehicle. A REEV feels more like an EV with a gasoline backup. The positive side is clear: you get smooth electric driving for daily use without fully depending on public charging. The downside is that you still carry an engine, fuel tank, exhaust system, and added mechanical complexity.



The C10 Hybrid EV uses a 28.4 kWh battery and offers 145 km of WLTP electric range. A realistic EPA-style estimate would likely sit closer to 105 to 115 km. Combined WLTP range is rated at 974 km. That makes this setup very interesting for Canada, where winter, distance, rural travel, and charging access still matter. In sport mode, on mountain roads, we saw 6.5 L/100 km. The official figure with a depleted battery is 6.4 L/100 km, so our result was impressive considering the way we drove it.


On the road, the REEV version felt smooth, calm, and more enjoyable than expected. It is not a performance SUV, with 215 hp, 236 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-100 km/h time of 7.5 seconds. But the power delivery is clean, and the chassis felt composed on the Austrian mountain roads. The steering is light, but the vehicle is predictable. It did not feel lazy or disconnected when the roads became more demanding.

The second version was the fully electric C10 Design ProMax AWD. This one changes the tone completely. It uses an 81.9 kWh battery and produces 440 kW, or about 590 horsepower. It reaches 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. WLTP range is rated at 437 km. For buyers more focused on range than outright performance, the rear-wheel-drive versions make more sense. The 69.9 kWh RWD model is rated at 424 km WLTP, while the 81.9 kWh RWD ProMax reaches 510 km WLTP. In city-focused WLTP testing, the larger-battery RWD version can go as high as 722 km, which explains why some markets may show much higher range numbers. The AWD version gives up some range, but it brings the performance.

The BEV AWD felt more planted than the REEV. It is heavier, but it also has much more power and stronger traction. On mountain roads, it was quick, stable, and easy to place. It is not trying to be a sports SUV, but it gives you serious acceleration in a very relaxed package. Charging is also competitive, with DC fast charging rated at up to 180 kW and a 30-80% charge time of about 20 minutes.


Minimalist Inside, Surprisingly Composed On The Road

Inside, the C10 clearly takes inspiration from Tesla. The dashboard is clean, the physical buttons are limited, and most functions go through the large 14.6-inch centre screen. Unlike a Tesla Model Y, the C10 also gives the driver a 10.25-inch digital display. The cabin feels open and roomy, especially in the second row. Cargo space is rated at 435 litres behind the rear seats and 1,410 litres with the seats folded.

The minimalist interior will not please everyone. Some buyers will want more physical controls, especially for climate and quick vehicle settings. But the design feels modern, the space is strong, and the equipment level is generous. The C10 also offers family-friendly details like a panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats on Design models, a 360-degree camera, a heat pump, V2L capability, and a long list of driver assistance features.

First Contact Verdict

First contact verdict: the Leapmotor C10 made a stronger impression than expected. The REEV version feels like the smarter family choice, giving buyers the smoothness of an EV with the reassurance of a gasoline range extender. At the same time, the C10 Design ProMax AWD proves Leapmotor can also deliver serious performance. It is not perfect, with light steering and an interior that relies heavily on the centre screen, but it is spacious, comfortable, efficient, and surprisingly enjoyable on Austrian mountain roads. Whether or not it ever becomes part of Chrysler’s future, the C10 shows exactly the kind of modern electrified family SUV the brand needs if the Airflow is going to bring Chrysler back into the conversation.
