We drove the updated 2025 Ford Maverick lineup on the road, off-road, and even on the track in Mont-Tremblant—and it's safe to say this compact truck just became a triple threat.

Big news first: The Maverick Hybrid now finally comes with available AWD. Under the hood, it's powered by a 2.5L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder hybrid system with 191 hp. It's the most efficient small truck in Canada, with Ford claiming as low as 6.4 L/100 km combined (FWD), and 6.6 L/100 km with AWD. We pushed it hard and still saw 6.8 L/100 km.

If you want more power, there's the 2.0L EcoBoost engine delivering a punchy 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic with standard AWD. This engine is now available across multiple trims—including XLT, Lariat, Tremor, and Lobo.

The Tremor is now a dedicated off-road trim, and it's ready for the trail with all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, trail control, skid plates, and a new one-pedal driving mode for low-speed crawling. It tackled water crossings, mud, and steep inclines with confidence.

Then there's the all-new Maverick Lobo—the track-ready street truck nobody saw coming. Lowered suspension, sport-tuned steering and brakes, unique styling, and that same 2.0L EcoBoost, but paired with a 7-speed performance-tuned transmission and a track-only drive mode. Yes, we got it to squeal its tires on the track. It's the playful, cheeky side of Maverick—and we're here for it.

Inside, the Maverick lineup gets a refresh with a larger 13.2-inch touchscreen, new SYNC 4 system, standard wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and clever storage solutions. You still get DIY-friendly features like FITS slots and under-seat storage, plus up to 10 bed tie-downs, two 400W outlets, and even 12V eDIY wiring in the bed for custom setups.

From the budget-friendly XL Hybrid with steelies to the trail-conquering Tremor and the street-styled Lobo, the 2025 Maverick lineup covers it all: efficiency, utility, and personality. And with the lowest starting price of any pickup in Canada, it's no surprise this little truck continues to win over fans from SUVs, sedans, and even full-size trucks.

Ford gave us a chance to drive the Maverick for 2 days in the Laurentian region of Quebec to test these vehicles. We have no affiliation with Ford Canada. The above reflects our personal opinion of the cars referred to above.
